We are INTERFACE: The Institute of Religion, Faith and Culture in Public Life.

Our History

Interface was founded in 2016 by a group of civic leaders. The leaders shared a concern that although religion, faith and culture were pervasive in shaping society, they were not accorded due attention in public discourse, in comparison to the dominant voices of political actors.

The civic leaders, coming from a wide range of sectors in society – religion, academy, media, professional and cultural institutions – had a shared vision to create a platform for dialogue, research, deliberate ongoing honest conversation, interrogation and documentation on the role and place of religion, faith and culture in shaping public life.

Our Vision

INTERFACE desires to see a society that is set on a path towards harmony and inclusion guided by collective ethos and values. The phenomena, Religion, faith and culture are constantly present in our private and public spheres

Our Mission

To promote discourse and engagement around the place of religion, faith and culture in public life.

How are do what we do

How We Work

We work with institutions and groups whose core work is in the areas of religion, faith and culture. We believe that through collaboration each partner brings their expertise and strengths to enable value addition as well as effective and efficient use of resources.

We use both mainstream and social; as well as other forms of information dissemination to highlight issues, enhance knowledge and influence people’s attitude and behaviour.

Work with the youth as a key constituency by giving them opportunity to volunteer, dialogue, share experiences; and research around the issues of Religion, Faith and Culture in public life. Through this we hope to build a generation that is bold enough to ask difficult questions, have constructive conversations around them and gain deeper understanding in the process.

We network with other organizations and institutions on issues of common interest because we recognise that we are part of the wider civil society space. We do this mainly through participating in their activities as a way of learning, building capacity and contributing INTERFACE’s voice and experience

INTERFACE also deliberately invests time in internal participatory organizational learning processes as a key strategy for enhancing internal capacity, team effectiveness and ensuring sustained relevance and response to emerging issues.

Our methodology which cuts across all that we do mainly involves i) conversation and dialogue- interface believes that the conversation and dialogue process can transform an individual or community attitude, behaviour and practice ii) development of think pieces on key issues; iii) seminars and public dialogues; iv) research and publication; v)participatory learning processes; vi)creating space for inquiry and experience sharing.

Partners we collaborate with to facilitate change in individuals and communities.

The Team Connect Space

The INTERFACE team seeks to grow and learn through its experiences and it does this through weekly team learning and planning meetings known as The Team Connect and retreats. The Team Connect spaces also provide an opportunity for team members to support one another at a personal level whenever needed.

The INTERFACE team uses the retreat spaces to collectively reflect on the organisation’s activities, achievement, challenges over a specific period of time i.e. identify and document what has been learnt in the specific period and its implications to the future, quarterly and annually.
